Character

20120801-133750“What does characterization do for a story? In a nutshell, it allows us to empathize with the protagonist and secondary characters and thus feel that what is happening to these people in the story is vicariously happening to us; and it also gives a sense of verisimilitude, or the semblance of living reality.” (Karen Bernardo, Characterization In Literature)

Their are many different types of characters in all books and text. Some examples of characters would be protagonist, antagonist, dynamic, and flat characters.

Antagonist are the characters who create friction in a story, they are the opposition of the protagonist and in someway they are against the protagonist.

In the book “Buck” an Antagonist character would be the drug supplier (Bone) that Malo owed money to. Once Bone found out that Malo didn’t have the money to pay him back or the drugs he was looking for Malo to hurt him. Bone would be considered a villain in the story or enemy of Malo, making him an antagonist.
